COMPUTING

“Computers are incredibly fast, accurate and stupid; humans are incredibly slow, inaccurate and brilliant; together they are powerful beyond imagination.” Albert Einstein.

Computing Curriculum Overview

Computing is embedded in our everyday lives. At St Peter’s, we know the importance of fostering our children’s passion and thirst for technology and so provide them with the skills and learning they need to become confident, capable and responsible users of a wide range of technological equipment.

Each week, pupils in KS1 and KS2 receive a dedicated Computing lesson where we develop skills from the three aspects of the computing curriculum: computer science, information technology and digital literacy.

We have a wireless network throughout the school which enables us to use mobile trollies with laptops and iPads for ‘in-class’ teaching of Computing. We have a full class set of high quality laptops and two full class sets of iPads, allowing one pupil per device. Every classroom is fitted with an interactive touch screen whiteboard, providing a highly engaging way of teaching skills and concepts. We encourage the use of laptops and iPads in many areas of the curriculum and provide opportunities where the children can work together on a particular skill or projects linked to other subjects. Additionally, we have recently introduced 8 iPads into reception, which are being used for coding apps, taking pictures and scanning QR codes to listen to stories.

We continually upgrade both our hardware and software to ensure the children have access to high quality equipment, which can be used across the curriculum.

Other resources that we have are Bee-Bots and Blue-Bots, webcams and dataloggers that are used to develop a variety of skills and enhance the learning experience within Computing and across the curriculum.

A high priority for us is safeguarding children; E-Safety is taught to every pupil across the school and is reinforced throughout all of our Computing units.
