Highly Able English
The Highly Able groups are run alongside the classroom curriculum to provide extra challenge for children who are already working above the expected level for their age. The English groups focus on reading and writing and children are exposed to a range of genres and a variety of activities. In writing, we look at word and sentence level activities such as refining punctuation and grammar skills as well as text level work, including descriptive or persuasive writing techniques. In reading, we try to promote a love of literature and tackle some challenging texts to widen our vocabulary and hone our inference skills. Older children will practise written reading comprehension skills.
