ST PETER’S CE PRIMARY SCHOOL
At St Peters, children gain a huge enjoyment from learning Spanish. We feel this is a very important area of the curriculum as language is a key to opening doors around the world. Children learn Spanish from Reception to Year 6. There is a large focus upon speaking and listening in Reception and Key Stage One, giving lots of opportunity to role play and experiment with words and pronunciation. The children progress to developing writing skills and grammar by the end of Key Stage Two.
Alongside teaching children the skills of the language itself, we also try to immerse our pupils in the culture and traditions of Spain and Spanish speaking countries. We raise world issues and international dimensions, giving children a broad multilingual and multicultural appreciation. We also thoroughly enjoy our annual Spanish day which is a day dedicated to Spain (or a Spanish speaking country), encompassing language, food, clothing, music and atmosphere.
